Publish - 21/01/2021

On 21st January 2021, ASCOPE Secretary-In-Charge Dr. Tran Hong Nam on behalf of ten (10) national oil and gas companies/entities responsible for oil and gas in each of the ASEAN Member State (ASCOPE members) paticipated at the Special Senior Officials Meeting on Energy “Special SOME” via online platform hosted by  Vietnam.

Dr. Tran Hong Nam reported on accomplishments of the Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline Program (TAGP Program) under the ASEAN Action Plan on Energy (APAEC) in Phase 1 (2016-2020) and proposed Work Plan for 2021 in line with the annual priority under the ASEAN Action Plan on Energy (APAEC) Phase 2 (2021-2025) which was endorsed by the 38th ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting (AMEM) in November 2020.

With a view to pursuing the development of a common gas market for ASEAN, in 2021 ASCOPE plans to develop the gas advocacy communication plans to raise awareness and understanding of natural gas benefits. Given the Covid-19 situation, ASCOPE members will consider appropriate communication platforms for engagement with various authorities/ministerial/ governmental and relevant key stakeholders to facilitate understanding of the full value spectrum of the gas value chain.

The Meeting highly appreciates ASCOPE’s work plan for TAGP Program in 2021 under APAEC Phase 2 and looks forwards to ASCOPE’s continued promotion of natural gas and LNG, contributing to the transition towards cleaner energy supply and usage.
